Jasper Schweppe began his solo singing training at the Conservatorium in Zwolle. He obtained his diploma as a performing musician in 1998 at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. From 1996 to 2004, Jasper was employed by the Groot Omroepkoor, and since 2004, he has been a core member of the Nederlands Kamerkoor.
Jasper has always combined ensemble singing with solo performances, allowing him to master many musical styles, from the 1000-year-old Gregorian chant with the ensemble Hartkeriana to early Renaissance polyphony with groups such as the Huelgas Ensemble and the Egidius Kwartet. Jasper particularly enjoys singing music from the Baroque and early Baroque periods, and Johann Sebastian Bach features prominently in his repertoire every season.
Jasper has participated in various opera productions. He collaborated with the Orkest van de 18e Eeuw, conducted by Frans Brüggen, on the successful international production "Les Indes Galantes" by Rameau, and he worked with Camerata Trajectina on "De Zeven Zonden" by Jeronimus Bosch, a wonderful collaboration with Gerrit Komrij.
Jasper has worked with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Frans Brüggen, Jos van Veldhoven, Richard Egar, Peter Dijkstra, Risto Joost, Klaas Stok, and Jan Willem de Vriend. He has a special affinity for singing song repertoire. In Paris in 1999, he won first prize at the Musicora competition, where he sang works by Poulenc and Ravel. Since then, he has performed many recitals both domestically and internationally. His CD "La Bonne Chanson," featuring songs by Fauré with texts by Verlaine, and his CDs with Schubert's "Winterreise," "Schöne Müllerin," and "Schwanengesang," as well as songs by Francis Poulenc with texts by Paul Éluard, have been very well received by the press.
In 2019, Jasper began the complete recording of all songs by Franz Schubert. He is doing this in collaboration with fortepianist Riko Fukuda and on behalf of the Schubertiade Foundation (www.schubertiade.nl). The songs are released exclusively as streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other streaming sites. Volumes I through IX of the recordings have already been released.
In addition to singing, Jasper is a vocal teacher. He has a small number of selected private students and he teaches at the Kampen Boys Choir and serves as the artistic coordinator of the Nederlands Kamerkoor.
In 2019 yhe foundation Stichting Schubertiade was established. The foundation aims to facilitate the recording of all songs by Franz Schubert. Jasper Schweppe and Riko Fukuda record all the songs authentically using period instruments (fortepiano). The recordings are released in volumes and follow the order of the Bärenreiter Neue Schubert Ausgabe. Volumes 1 through 7 are available on all streaming platforms, as well as on YouTube. Volumes 8 and 9 will be released in 2025, and volumes 10 to 15 have been recorded and are currently being edited.
